And then there was a blog…!

I’m so excited to have a new blog to show and talk about photography, behind the scenes fun, and more about me! But let’s be honest- I’ve never blogged before! So this is new territory for me. But I’m always up for something new! So here we go!

I thought I’d make my first entry a little about me. I was raised in and around Missoula and the Bitterroot Valley and moved here to Bozeman with my high school sweetheart, David after we graduated high school. We got married at 20 (so young!) and I love being in love with my best friend! We have 2 kiddos that keep us busy and laughing. Drew is 4 and Paige is 1. My 3rd child is our 175lb English Mastiff, Duke. He’s adorable and huge and we love him. We’ve been in Bozeman for almost 10 years now and love that it’s our home.

I actually started my college career with a year of studying physics. I loved math and science. But I knew I wanted a job that would allow me to be a professional and still be a mom at home with the kids I knew I wanted. So I switched my major to something that had been a passion of mine since I got my first camera at 4 years old- photography. And I’ve never looked back. I’m in love with my family, my life, and my job. Amazing.

Last week we went to campus, put a movie on in the car for our kids and took some headshots behind EPS. I always get a kick out of the process it is to do photos of ourselves. David is an engineer and researches EVERYTHING. Which I actually really love about him. He looked up a ton of different professional headshot ideas and wanted a specific one for his LinkedIn profile so we spent a few minutes posing in front of people walking into the building, getting a few weird looks from guy mowing his lawn across the street, and listening for our kids to scream for us 10 ft away in the car through the open windows. Now we’ve got some spiffy new photos for our businesses, and I’m pretty thrilled about my website facelift. My studio has also gotten a bit of a makeover too! Super fun. You will all have to come on out for a session and see for yourselves!

I’m beyond grateful for all of the people who come to me to capture memories for them. Life is never the same moment to moment. The phrase “the days are long but the years are short” is so true. You never get these moments back and photographs are such a sweet part of memories and passing stories on. When your kids get married you probably won’t break out the crib to show off that they slept in, or the grass-stained baseball pants, or the Halloween costumes. But you just might have an album set out on the table like we did, full of those memories in photographs. They’re important. They’re your history. They’re your life in something you can carry with you. And they’re what you’ll have left when loved ones pass on. Even if you just do it with your phone- take pictures! Remember the little things. Make albums. And when you can, come to a photographer who loves to help families preserve these days. Let them create beautiful pieces of art for you and your family to enjoy and pass down to your kids and grandkids. You’ll never regret having your photos taken. You’ll only regret it if you don’t. And if you choose me to do it, I will be so honored to do so. 🙂
